Success Story
12 Year old — Sponsors Tie Drive for the Unemployed
In hard economic times, asks of kindness by individuals enables STRIVE DC to help unemployed people move from unemployment to employment. On April 1, 2010, 12 year old Aaron Nadler delivered over 20 ties that he collected for STRIVE DC’s Career Gear.
“I am collecting ties for my project as I become a Bar Mitzvah. Becoming a Bar Mitzvah means to be counted as an adult in the Jewish community. Most children who become a Bar Mitzvah celebrate it with a special service. Some also decide to do a project to benefit a community to show they are now responsible. So over the summer heard about Strive DC and was interested in what you do to help your community. I knew there are a lot of unemployed people in DC, and I wanted to help them. While I was looking through your (STRIVE DC ‘s) website, I learned that you (STRIVE DC) make it possible for unemployed people to have successful job interviews. I also found that you need clothing for those interviews that people will go to. I realized that ties are important for interviews. I then decided to collect ties from my friends and family, and donate them to Strive DC. I currently have 170 ties, and there are more to come. I hope these ties help make a good impression for the Strive clients’ interviews, and give them the support and confidence they need.”
